A Unique Experience in Pleasure and Performance
Sailing performance was one of the most important considerations during the design of the Advanced A44. While this yacht is not a pure racing machine, its hull lines, appendages and sail plan are clearly derived from our experience designing racing boats for the America’s Cup and Volvo Ocean Races. The A44’s canoe body is wide and its maximum beam is carried all the way aft to favour righting and minimise drag at high speeds. The bulb keel’s draft is comparable to pure racers of similar size. In fact, stability and hydrodynamic efficiency didn't want to be compromised with a shallow draft. There are two rudders for maximum control, manoeuvrability and efficiency when heeled. The sail plan includes a square-top mainsail which considerably increases aerodynamic efficiency. Overall weight has been kept down by working together as a team on deck layout, interiors and structures, to give the Advanced A44 the performance and feel of a thoroughbred racer.
